A Purchasing Agent Drinks Irresponsibly, Gets Motivated To Get Treatment For Depression And Alcohol Dependency, And Augments His Life
Ralph began drinking heavily when he was in the tenth grade. From a positive perspective, although he drank excessively and hazardously when he was a teenager and a young adult, when he got beyond the age of twenty-five he almost always drank in moderation.
After he completed his education he eventually found employment at a local copper smelting plant where he applied himself and worked his way up from stock person, to office assistant, to purchasing assistant, to purchasing agent. Unlike his other work positions, as the purchasing manager he constantly took existing vendors and potential vendors to lunch and to a variety of sporting events.
Though it was not an official part of his job description, meeting with existing vendors and potential vendors again and again involved circumstances in which alcohol was present. In truth, over the past sixteen months, Ralph had begun to appreciably increase his social and his work-related drinking. This has resulted in a quandary. More specifically, the more successful he became as a purchasing agent, the more heavily he began to drink.
In actual fact, it did not take much time at all before Ralph's hazardous and irresponsible drinking started to negatively affect his work efficiency, his health, his relationships, his mental health, and the money in his savings account. After many weeks of excessive drinking, Ralph, if truth be told, began to get anxious about his abusive and hazardous drinking and wondered whether his alcohol related problems were alcoholism signs. What is more, his almost constant feelings of depression also made him wonder whether he was becoming an alcohol dependent individual. In a word, Ralph obviously needed to learn more about the facts about alcohol abuse and the signs of alcoholism.
So Ralph used his reasoning skills, called his doctor, and made an appointment for a thorough physical examination. The next week when he saw his health care professional, Ralph unfortunately was told that he was addicted to alcohol. His family doctor informed Ralph that he needed to get alcohol detox and alcohol rehab for his alcoholism and that he also needed to get a medical assessment regarding his depression. In short, Ralph needed treatment for his alcohol addiction and depression.
His health care professional recommended to Ralph that he request a two-month leave of absence from work and get admitted into a quality in-patient alcohol rehab clinic where his depression could also be assessed and treated. This is exactly what Ralph did. The positive news is that after his treatment for alcohol dependency and for depression, he felt like a different person. In point of fact, now that he was in recovery he hardly ever got depressed and he now understood how to more successfully and productively manage his health, his job, his relationships, and his finances.
Not unexpectedly, the most challenging test Ralph ran into was at the office. Stated briefly, he still took potential vendors and his existing vendors to various sporting events and to lunch, but after his alcohol treatment he managed to refrain from drinking while entertaining his clients.
It can be emphasized that Ralph also discovered that none of his potential vendors or his existing vendors thought any less of him because of his abstinence. Alternatively, he learned that his existing vendors and potential vendors thought even more highly of him for staying true to his convictions.
After Ralph went through alcohol treatment he found out that if he abstained from drinking, all of the other meaningful parts of his life would be fortified. At times, it may be noted, Ralph missed drinking, but the better finances, work performance, health, and the better relationships he experienced more than compensated for his craving for alcohol.
