A Registered Nurse Is Troubled With Her Awful Depression And Makes Up Her Mind To Quit Drinking
For the past five years Carolyn has been a nurse practitioner at a local hospital. As a professional nurse, she certainly knew what to tell her patients when it came to their health problems but in her off-duty life, then again, she clearly didn't practice what she preached. As an example, she occasionally drank quite heavily, she didn't exercise, she smoked approximately two packs of cigarettes on an everyday basis, and she was just about forty-nine pounds overweight.
One day on her way to work, Carolyn got into an automobile accident. Due to the fact that the accident was her fault and since her speech was slurred when she talked, the arresting policeman gave her a breathalyzer test a breathalyzer test. In concurrence with standard police operating procedures, when an individual is involved in a traffic accident and fails a breathalyzer test, the person has to spend at least eight hours in the municipal jail.
In fact, Carolyn should have known better than to drive after she was drinking because she recently went to an alcohol awareness class at the hospital that focused on information about long term alcohol effects such as the following: alcohol poisoning, binge drinking, DUIs, and the primary differences between alcoholism and alcohol abuse.
It almost goes without saying that Carolyn was humiliated by her traffic accident. Moreover, she was embarrassed about the fact that the accident was her fault. And perhaps worst of all, she was embarrassed about the fact that she was driving after she had a few drinks. As Carolyn contemplated her circumstance, then again, she realized how fortunate she was because down the road her drinking problems could have been a lot worse due to the long term effects of alcohol.
In any case, Carolyn's embarrassment about her traffic accident motivated her to reconsider her life and make some remarkable and beneficial alterations. First, she was going to quit drinking in an abusive manner. This would obviously help her steer clear of long term alcohol abuse. Second, she was going to quit smoking. Third, she was going to go on a diet. And fourth, she was going to start exercising.
As disconcerted and depressed as Carolyn was about the total vehicle accident circumstance, she used this upsetting experience as a catalyst for healthy change. Not only this but, she used her negative experience as a wake up call that she had been failing to address her own health while she openly told her patients how to live in a more healthy manner. After all had been said and done, she finally saw the double standard in her actions and decided that she would live her life as a positive source of encouragement for the patients she treated at the hospital.
