An Evening Out With Friends From School At A Local College Disco Leads To Irresponsible And Abusive Drinking And Symptoms Of An Alcohol Overdose
When Lois was in high school, she had gained a reputation as a studious person who rarely, if ever, let her hair down by drinking with her friends. She seemed driven to excel academically so that she would be able to find a career that she not only got pleasure from but one that also gave her a degree of monetary stability.
After Lois finished high school, she applied to and was accepted into a nationally ranked program in sociology. Her analysis of her options regarding this decision was based on the fact that this subject matter would be a good foundation for law school and would not be comparable to the bulk of law school applicants who choose political science as their undergraduate minor or major.
Lois was the kind of individual who worked hard to complete what she started and then would take a few days off when she could. It just so happens, however, that the vast majority of the things she did between school sessions or during summer breaks did not have much of anything to do with drinking. Obviously, Lois was anything but a party-person. Now that her final examinations for her second year in law school were over and realizing that she had done a super job on her exams, however, she wanted to let her hair down and have some fun.
So Lois and a number of her buddies went to a local bar and grill where they had a few glasses of wine. As the evening progressed, Lois and her friends continued to drink. If truth be told, she was having such a good time that she didn't want the night to end.
After drinking around forty-five minutes when Lois began to slur her words, speak in a confused manner, and then become unconscious, in spite of this, her friends immediately realized that they needed to call that they needed to call 911 and ask for medical assistance because they thought that Lois was manifesting alcohol poisoning symptoms.
Lois was conscious of the fact that she came an inch from losing her life from an alcohol overdose and, as a result, was thankful to be alive. At the same time, nevertheless, she was somewhat depressed knowing that she had almost died the previous night. Her Mom and Dad realized how relentlessly she worked at school and how little she let herself socialize with her buddies. Nevertheless, they also knew that Lois needed to steer clear of abusive and careless drinking.
As a consequence, they suggested that down the road, whenever a drinking situation presents itself, that she always drink responsibly and in moderation. Lois agreed and swore to her parents and to her friends that she would never again drink in an abusive and hazardous manner. As stated by Lois, "I never had a clue that I might become one of the alcohol poisoning statistics in the local newspaper. I now know that abusive and irresponsible drinking is not for me. I guarantee that this will never happen again."
Fortunately, Lois was not only "book smart" but she also displayed a lot of. Stated another way, she immediately knew that she had made a mistake and decided that she would not make the same error again. In fact, she now knew that she had involved herself in "binge drinking" and that even one instance of this type of abusive and careless drinking can end in a loss of life.
