Puppy House Training
Dog Kennel Training, most often described as Crate Training, is the fastest way to start out with house breaking the new puppy dog you have just taken in as a pet. 'Kennel' could be referred to as 'Crate' and 'Kennel Training' will be referred to as 'Crate Training' in the rest of this article.
There are other benefits to a dog crate, aside from just house training puppies. When restricted in a crate the puppy is not able to get into any mischief and harm itself. Don't forget that, your costly footwear are safe from being chewed up. Crate training, if done correctly, will also provide you with a safe and secure 'den' where your four-legged friend will always be comfortable.
To a pooch out in the wild, it's den is the one place it feels secure in, it seeks refuge in, it retreats to, to take a rest. The rationale of dog kennel training is to use the crate as the den it would seek solitude in, had it been a doggy in the wild..
To achieve this goal, the dimensions of the crate, its construction, and the materials it is made from, are very important as well as, the essential rule, that the crate should not be used to reprimand the dog in any fashion what so ever. The pup from the very beginning should learn to trust the crate and not fear it.
The crate should be in place in the house before you bring the new puppy home for the first time. Choose a size that would not allow the pup to frolic about or stand up on its hind legs. A large number of skilled trainers stipulate that the crate should fit as described above, for all ages of the dog. This suggests that a new crate should be bought every two months or so, till the pup is fully grown. It most advisable to obtain a crate that is for a full grown puppy of its breed, but partition it to fit the puppy's present size, adjusting the partition as the dog grows, till the partition is not needed at all.
It must be remembered that a pup will never do its business in its sleeping quarters, for this reason the dimensions of the crate should be enough for enough sleeping space only, if the crate is going to be used to toilet train the pup successfully.
When beginning the pup kennel training, it is of highest magnitude that the pup makes its way into it of its own choice and not forced into it, or physically put into it. It must walk into it. Use a few choice treats inside the crate to attract him or her in at the beginning. A cozy puppy blanket and some chew toys will make the crate a very attractive proposition, and a cool place to hang out in.
Let us not forget that, rewards go a long way. The moment the puppy has entered the crate for the purpose of exploring the crate place another treat and add some praises to make the pup mindful that you want it, and like it to be in there. Give the puppy the ability to get out of the crate, and get back into it at least a couple of times before you lock it up for the first time.
After locking it for the first time, unlock the door, and leave it open after a couple of minutes. Repeating locking and unlocking the door of the crate a couple of times, but lengthen the number of minutes it has been closed shut each time. Make sure that you are always within the dog's sight. It should think it is still a part what is taking place in the room, even though it is confined in the crate.
It is normal that the puppy will start whining the first time you shut the door of the crate. You should never open the crate or talk to the doggy on account of the crying. Taking the puppy for toilet breaks have to be scheduled based on its age. The breaks would be more frequent in younger pups. An hour for a dog that is just a month old.
Use an hour for a month of age, so if the puppy is more than eleven weeks old, you can without any problems constrict him for as long as 3 hours before his next toilet break, but that is only a guide, you would have to monitor the temperament of the doggy when it is in the crate to make sure that it is not enduring any pain because of a full bladder.
Puppy crate training is a must in the training schedule of every pup. It makes house training very easy and keeps your property safe from sharp little teeth bettering your chances of having a pet that is welcome in your household.
